Carly Hunter Pocket Dress
Posted: May 17, 2013 Filed under: Autumn/Winter 2013, Shopping, Women | Tags: 2013, autumn, carine thevenau, carly hunter, dress, escape into reality, winter Leave a comment »This simple dress, available in ivory and black, from Carly Hunter‘s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Escape into Reality”, is a favourite of mine. The dress is made from cotton linen and lined with 100% silk, following Carly’s dedication to luxury and quality. It also features an invisible zip closure and two front welt and two front patch pockets, ensuring complete practicality. At first I thought the dress may be too simple, but the pockets definitely add to the piece, creating a blank canvas for what will undoubtedly be an impeccable, edgy outfit.
Dress, £260.00, from Carly Hunter

“Overground”
Posted: May 13, 2013 Filed under: Autumn/Winter 2013, Women | Tags: 2013, autumn, dzhus, irina dzhus, not just a label, olga nepravda, overground, winter Leave a comment »Following the brand’s signature aesthetic, Ukrainian womenswear brand DZHUS‘ Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Overground”, celebrates clean-cut lines and impeccably tailored silhouettes. A palette of red, grey and white adorns armour-like dresses, and the entire collection exudes uniqueness through its contrasting mix of silk and cotton alongside a slightly more industrial grey mesh. Irina’s inspiration from architecture, industrial objects and utilitarian constructions is, without doubt, evident throughout the entire collection.

Trine Lindegaard Autumn/Winter 2013
Posted: May 10, 2013 Filed under: Autumn/Winter 2013, Men | Tags: 2013, autumn, fine cell work, happiness, ivona chrzastek, trine lindegaard, winter Leave a comment »Trine Lindegaard‘s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Happiness”, “brings together needlework from UK-based prisoners and traditional textile crafts of West Africa known as Kente”. Trine worked with Fine Cell Work, “a social enterprise that trains prisoners in paid, skilled and creative needlework”, in collaboration with prisoners to create beautiful hand embellishments, a truly inspirational edge to Lindegaard’s work. Trine “drew inspiration from a painting prisoner Ziga was asked to create on the subject of happiness, an amazing imaginative image for someone who rarely sees the outside world – both native and surreal”.
Despite this being Trine’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, she continues to use a complex palette of red, yellow, black, blue, white, green, grey, brown and pink. Soft sweatshirts are embellished with what I can only describe as cute hearts and flowers, while Trine’s signature padded tops carry an exuberant African print. The collection is cool, kooky and exuberant, three words I associate and will continue to associate with the phenomenal work of Trine Lindegaard, a Danish menswear talent living and working in London.

“Escape into Reality”
Posted: May 9, 2013 Filed under: Autumn/Winter 2013, Women | Tags: 2013, autumn, carine thevenau, carly hunter, escape into reality, winter Leave a comment »Carly Hunter‘s beautiful Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Escape into Reality” is, according to Carly, about ‘work/corporate life’ versus ‘retirement and leisure’, and contrasts the casual and formal, relaxed and up tight. Carly has focused predominately on comfort while ensuring that the collection follows her devotion to luxury, dominating many of the pieces with silk.
As with all of Carly’s work, the collection is incredibly edgy while still maintaining numerous incredibly feminine traits. Each and every piece is perfectly tailored. Bold cobalt blue and cerise break up an otherwise subtle palette of black, grey and white. I really admire a designer who’s willing to break convention and use bold colour to give a pop to the cold autumn and winter months. Even though the digital print from Carly’s phenomenal Spring/Summer 2013 collection, “Ocean Noir”, is vacant from this collection, I still think it’s one of Carly’s best!

Vish Women’s Autumn/Winter 2013
Posted: April 17, 2013 Filed under: Autumn/Winter 2013, Women | Tags: 2013, andreia passos, autumn, luiz wachelke, to the hills, vish, winter Leave a comment »I admire the women’s half of Vish‘s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “To The Hills”, just as much as the men’s half. Then again, I do have a huge crush on the brand and it’s therefore only natural that I’m going to admire everything they do. A number of unisex pieces are followed through, but the duo has also created some beautiful, feminine pieces. Dresses, shirts and skirts are adorned with elegant prints while trousers are studded, giving the collection an ideal elegance to edge ratio. Many of the dresses and skirts are pleated and, surprisingly, the majority of the prints are floral. Versatility is at the heart of the collection, with most of the pieces promising to look great regardless of the season. There really is something for everyone!

Vish Men’s Autumn/Winter 2013
Posted: April 14, 2013 Filed under: Autumn/Winter 2013, Men | Tags: 2013, andreia passos, autumn, luiz wachelke, men, to the hills, vish, winter 1 Comment »For Autumn/Winter 2013, in the men’s half of the collection, Brazilian unisex brand Vish presents an abundance of quirky graphic t-shirts, printed shorts, shirts, trousers, sweatshirts and jackets. “To The Hills” is a great assortment of unique but versatile garments for the young, contemporary man. Fleece-lined coats ensure warmth during the cold autumn and winter months, while the hope of sunshine is still evident as numerous pair’s shorts bombard a large chunk of the collection. I’ve always loved Vish for its versatility, creating garments that can easily be paired with one another or worn alongside another brand or two, and Luiz Wachelke and Andreia Passos, the duo behind Vish, have, once again, done superbly!

My piece on the women’s half of the collection will follow next week.

Kelly Love Autumn/Winter 2013: The Story
Posted: April 12, 2013 Filed under: Autumn/Winter 2013, Women | Tags: 2013, autumn, claire pepper, flowers & grandeur, kelly love, winter Leave a comment »In addition to Wednesday’s piece about Kelly Love’s beautiful Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Flowers & Grandeur”, I wanted to share with you the story Kelly wrote to accompany the collection, giving an insight into the inspiration for the collection…
A wooden door in Paris. Painted duck egg blue with a fine brass knocker.
It used to be grand. Used to be the house on the street that wanderers would
marvel at and bohemian folk would flock to for tea and parties.
Now it is faded with a nostalgic air of tragedy and loss.
But the air of beauty has never left…..
I heard he used to write her letters, long and drawn out pages of his unwavering
love for her and how he would rather die than live in this world without her.
Used to buy her bunches and bunches of fresh exotic flowers that he would leave
by that grand blue door – Calla lilies, Orchids, Sweet Peas & Poppies……
You used to see her. Gliding around the streets in her exquisite finery –
dresses made of the lightest silk illustrated with an artist’s palette & floral blooms.
Thick woolen ombre & mohair coats to ward of the chill, panelled blouses of silk
chiffon and jacquard, velvet panels on Italian suede & antique lace folded into collars.
The colours were vibrant against her luminous skin – sumptuous magenta, the deepest teal to match her eyes, dusty blush against the blackest hues & nude pink so naked it was almost indecent.
Whatever happened to them? Where did they go? Their presence was strong enough to leave a mark, a remnant of history that will always remain on that Parisian doorstep of flowers and grandeur.
Remember, you will soon be able to view and purchase the collection through Kelly’s website.
