Inspired heavily by minerals and the natural world, London-based Noemi Klein always manages to produce beautifully simple collections full of jewellery that is both elegant and edgy, mixing quality craftsmanship with raw shapes. Noemi’s new collection features both silver and gold, and contrasts castings of mineral clusters alongside solid geometric shapes. Not only is the collection effortlessly intriguing, but it also “explores the fragile relationship between the human and inanimate”, the figurative and the abstract.

Carly Hunter Pocket Dress

This simple dress, available in ivory and black, from Carly Hunter‘s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Escape into Reality”, is a favourite of mine. The dress is made from cotton linen and lined with 100% silk, following Carly’s dedication to luxury and quality. It also features an invisible zip closure and two front welt and two front patch pockets, ensuring complete practicality. At first I thought the dress may be too simple, but the pockets definitely add to the piece, creating a blank canvas for what will undoubtedly be an impeccable, edgy outfit.

It could take no vacant dream

The weather slipped a little earlier this week, meaning that, despite my reluctance, I was forced to throw on a jacket. However, I dealt with it, mainly because the jacket was my Levi’s denim jacket, a simple favourite of mine when the big blue guy in the sky decides to disappear. I paired it with a basic H&M t-shirt and a very comfortable pair of black H&M jeans. My Burton belt and plimsolls also made an appearance. This ensemble is definitely one of my lazier ones, but it’s great for when both the weather and I are feeling a little tired and down in the dumps.

“Overground”

Following the brand’s signature aesthetic, Ukrainian womenswear brand DZHUS‘ Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Overground”, celebrates clean-cut lines and impeccably tailored silhouettes. A palette of red, grey and white adorns armour-like dresses, and the entire collection exudes uniqueness through its contrasting mix of silk and cotton alongside a slightly more industrial grey mesh. Irina’s inspiration from architecture, industrial objects and utilitarian constructions is, without doubt, evident throughout the entire collection.

Trine Lindegaard Autumn/Winter 2013

Trine Lindegaard‘s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Happiness”, “brings together needlework from UK-based prisoners and traditional textile crafts of West Africa known as Kente”. Trine worked with Fine Cell Work, “a social enterprise that trains prisoners in paid, skilled and creative needlework”, in collaboration with prisoners to create beautiful hand embellishments, a truly inspirational edge to Lindegaard’s work. Trine “drew inspiration from a painting prisoner Ziga was asked to create on the subject of happiness, an amazing imaginative image for someone who rarely sees the outside world – both native and surreal”.

Despite this being Trine’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, she continues to use a complex palette of red, yellow, black, blue, white, green, grey, brown and pink. Soft sweatshirts are embellished with what I can only describe as cute hearts and flowers, while Trine’s signature padded tops carry an exuberant African print. The collection is cool, kooky and exuberant, three words I associate and will continue to associate with the phenomenal work of Trine Lindegaard, a Danish menswear talent living and working in London.

“Escape into Reality”

Carly Hunter‘s beautiful Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, “Escape into Reality” is, according to Carly, about ‘work/corporate life’ versus ‘retirement and leisure’, and contrasts the casual and formal, relaxed and up tight. Carly has focused predominately on comfort while ensuring that the collection follows her devotion to luxury, dominating many of the pieces with silk.

As with all of Carly’s work, the collection is incredibly edgy while still maintaining numerous incredibly feminine traits. Each and every piece is perfectly tailored. Bold cobalt blue and cerise break up an otherwise subtle palette of black, grey and white. I really admire a designer who’s willing to break convention and use bold colour to give a pop to the cold autumn and winter months. Even though the digital print from Carly’s phenomenal Spring/Summer 2013 collection, “Ocean Noir”, is vacant from this collection, I still think it’s one of Carly’s best!

And the walls kept tumbling down

Today’s look consisted of a simple blocked t-shirt from Hako, a black belt from Burton, a pair of jeans from H&M, and my new shoes from CLAE. It’s a relatively simple, casual look, but perfect for a warm spring day. Plus, I love how the jeans and shoes, both dark navy, look together!
